Since the 19th century, Germany has been among the leading nations
of collectors in Europe, and many uniquely diverse and important
foundations and museums owe their establishment to the enthusiasm
of private collectors. A sophisticated art market is a prerequisite for
the development of such collections. Lempertz has been accompanying this country’s collectors for over 200 years, and it is in light of this
tradition that we so strongly opposed the controversial new law for the
protection of cultural goods. Although
we were unable to prevent the law from
being passed, it was in part due to our
campaigning that several amendments
were included to the benefit of collectors
and art dealers. We would be happy
to consult with you should you require
advice concerning the new situation.
Deutschland zählt seit dem 19. Jahrhundert zu den großen Sammlernationen Europas und verdankt dem bürgerlichen Engagement bedeutende Stiftungen und Museumsgründungen, die in ihrer Vielfalt
einmalig sind. Eine Bedingung für die Entstehung von Sammlungen
ist ein anspruchsvoller Kunsthandel. Lempertz begleitet seit über
200 Jahren die Sammler in diesem Land und dieser Tradition
entsprechend haben wir uns mit großer Kraft gegen das umstrittene
Kulturgutschutzgesetz eingesetzt. Wenngleich es nicht verhindert
werden konnte, so sind doch auch durch unseren Einsatz einige
Erleichterungen zugunsten von Sammlern und Kunsthandel erreicht
worden. Gerne stehen wir Ihnen zur Verfügung, wenn Sie diesbezüglich Rat suchen.
Seit Anfang des Jahres darf auch ich mich in diesem ältesten
Auktionshaus in Familienbesitz einbringen und freue mich, diese
Tradition mit fortführen zu dürfen. Meine erste Ausstellung wird die
Präsentation der großartigen Sammlung zeitgenössischer Kunst von
Wilfried und Yannicke Cooreman in unseren Brüsseler Räumen sein.
Wegen der aufstrebenden Kunstszene und den besseren Rahmenbedingungen in Belgien werden wir diesen Standort weiter ausbauen.
Im September werden wir zudem in Berlin das grafische Werk von
Ellsworth Kelly aus einer deutschen Privatsammlung zeigen, die
weltweit eine der wichtigsten ist.
Unsere Hauptaufgabe aber sind die Auktionen. Wir möchten
Sie mit diesem Bulletin nach den Erfolgen der Frühjahrssaison einladen, Kontakt mit uns aufzunehmen, wenn Sie einen Verkauf Ihrer
Kunstwerke in Erwägung ziehen. Wir expandieren weiter und freuen
uns, dass unser Repräsentanten-Netzwerk um zwei junge Kollegen in
London und Paris erweitert wurde.

I was able to begin my involvement in this, the world’s
eldest family-owned auction house, at the start of this year, and am
proud to continue this tradition. My first exhibition will be the presentation of the fascinating contemporary art collection
of Wilfried and Yannicke Cooreman in our Brussels branch. Due to its
aspiring art market and favourable framework conditions in Belgium,
we will be expanding this location in the future. This September in
Berlin we will also be presenting graphic works by Ellsworth Kelly from
a German private collection which houses one of the most important
selections of his works worldwide.
However, our primary duty of course remains our auctions.
Following the successes of last season’s sales, many highlights of which
are presented in this bulletin, we invite you to contact us should you
too wish to part with any of your works of art. We are constantly
expanding our business further and are pleased to welcome two young
colleagues in London and Paris to our network of representatives.
