A Girl at My Door
Young-nam, erfolgreiche Polizistin aus Seoul, wird an einen kleinen
Fischerort strafversetzt. Dort wundert man sich über eine Frau in der
Position als Polizeichefin. Der Grund ihrer Versetzung bleibt zunächst
unklar. Dass sie schon länger unglücklich ist, offenbart ihr tägliches
Ritual, sich allein auf dem Fußboden ihrer Wohnung zu betrinken.
Do-hee, ein stilles, zartes Mädchen, wird von ihren Mitschülern gemobbt
und von ihrer Familie verprügelt. Ihr Vater Yong-ha ist Besitzer der
Fischerei; somit Chef der halben Gemeinde, die still dabei zusieht, wenn
er in aller Öffentlichkeit oft betrunken und brutal seine Aggressionen an
seiner Tochter ausagiert.
Young-nam, a promising young policewoman from Seoul, is transferred
to a small fishing village as a disciplinary measure. The locals are
somewhat surprised that a woman takes over the position of chief of
police. The reasons for Young-nam’s transferral are initially unclear. Her
daily routine of getting drunk on her living room floor suggests she’s
been unhappy for some time.
Do-hee, a quiet and timid girl, is bullied by her classmates and beaten
up by her family. Her father Yong-ha is the owner of the fishery and
therefore boss of half of the community, which looks on silently when he
gets drunk and becomes physically violent in public.
Diese beiden einsamen Frauen führt Jung in ihrem Regiedebüt zusammen. Auf der Flucht vor dem Vater steht Do-hee nun immer wieder vor
der Tür der Polizeichefin – bis Young-nam sie für den Sommer aufnimmt
und dem Vater die Stirn bietet. Konsequenzen folgen: Das vor Bigotterie
strotzende Dorf bringt sich gegen Yong-ha in Stellung. Ungünstig, dass
dann auch noch Young-nams Ex-Geliebte in der Stadt auftaucht.
In her directing debut, Jung brings together these two lonely women.
To escape her father, Do-hee repeatedly turns up on the police officer’s
doorstep – until Young-nam eventually takes her in for the summer in
defiance of the father. There are consequences: the bigoted villagers are
hostile towards Yong-ha. And then, awkwardly, Young-nam’s ex-lover
arrives in town.
Mittels einer geschickten und stetigen Verschiebung der Machtverhältnisse zwischen den drei Hauptfiguren gelingt Jung eine kluge Mischung
aus Drama und Thriller. Die Hauptrolle spielt die ‒ seit Cloud Atlas
auch einem internationalen Publikum bekannte ‒ Bae Donaa mit einer
starken Darbietung in der Rolle der Polizistin. Ein ungewohnt offener
Film über häusliche Gewalt und Homophobie, auch in July Jungs
Heimat Südkorea.
By skilfully and constantly shifting the balance of power between the
three main characters, Jung succeeds in creating an intelligent blend of
drama and thriller. The main role is played by Bae Donaa – internationally
renowned since Cloud Atlas – who delivers a strong performance in the
role of the policewoman. An unusually candid film about domestic
violence and homophobia, also in July Jung’s home country of South
Korea.
Biografie
Die in Südkorea geborene Regisseurin studierte zunächst am Institut
für Film, Fernsehen und Multimedia der Sungkyunkwan University und
schloss dann ein Filmstudium an der Korea National University of Arts
an. Ihr erster Kurzfilm A Man Under the Influenza gewann den Sonje
Award des Busan International Film Festivals. Ihr Spielfilmdebüt feierte
seine Premiere in der Reihe Un Certain Regard bei den Filmfestspielen
in Cannes. Aktuell bereitet Jung ihr neues Projekt Dora vor.
Biography
The South Korean-born director studied at Sungkyunkwan University’s
Institute of Film, Television and Multimedia, and then completed
a film degree at the Korea National University of Arts. Her first short
film A Man Under the Influenza won the Sonje Award at the Busan
International Film Festival. Her feature film debut premiered in the Un
Certain Regard series at the Cannes Film Festival. Jung is currently
working on her new project Dora.
