The Viking Ship Museum – a sea of experiences
Feel the presence of history when you stand before the
five original Viking ships or sail out on Roskilde Fjord.
The Viking Ship Museum provides unforgettable experiences
for the whole family. The Viking ships reveal stories about
wars and voyages, trade and journeys to distant lands and
about life in the North 1,000 years ago. The Michelin Guide
has awarded the Viking Ship Museum 3 stars – an attraction
that is worth the journey!
Experiences for all – all year round! Exciting exhibitions – Films
about Viking ships and Sea Stallion from Glendalough – Museum
shop – Dress as a Viking – Go on board Viking ships – Activities
for children – Scenic harbour life.
Viking workshops. The boatyard is building a Viking ship.
Come and be an apprentice and try your strength with Viking
tools. You can work with hot iron in the smithy or meet craftsmen
who can help you weave willow, make rope or carve patterns
in wood. You can strike coins, paint Viking shields, cast Thor’s
hammers and make Viking jewellery. Workshops are open daily
from 23rd June to 15th August, and during weekends and public
holidays from 4th May to 26th August.
Heart and Soul – 50 years with the ships of the Vikings.
Anniversary exhibition – explore 50 years of research on the
Skuldelev ships. The ships have provided new knowledge about
the Vikings and have also made Denmark one of the world’s leaders in the field of maritime archaeology. Opening 1st May 2012.
Go sailing! Experience how it was to be on board a Viking ship.
If you are over 4 years old, you can go sailing on Roskilde Fjord
from 1st May until 30th September. Additional ticket 80 DKK.
If you are a group, you can book an exclusive sailing trip –
perhaps with a picnic.
Anniversary voyage and festival. Sea Stallion sails again!
From 8th to 28th July. Follow the voyage live at www. viking
shipmuseum.dk – perhaps we will come to a harbour near
you! We will celebrate the homecoming with the Water, Wind
and Vikings Festival on 28th and 29th July.
New Nordic Viking Cuisine at Restaurant Snekken year round.
The summer café is open from 1st May to 30th September,
or bring your own picnic to enjoy outdoors.
Holiday activities and free guided tours during Danish school
holidays and every weekend in May, June, July and August.

Sagnlandet Lejre – Land of Legends, Lejre – a land you can
