Well done to the students and teachers alike!
NAPLAN results were released this term and the individual results for our Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students were mailed home.
Once again our overall results are excellent and competitive with the best in the ACT. We are now analysing the results to track
student progress and improve on our pedagogy in literacy and numeracy throughout the school.
School exchange
In the last few weeks we welcomed students from Lycée Jules Garnier in New Caledonia. They were billeted by many of our
families and we thank them sincerely for this. The students enjoyed their time with us and we look forward to exchange visits in
the future now that we have established a relationship with this lycée.
Secondary reports were sent home with students yesterday, Thursday 17 September, preceding parent/teacher interviews
next Tuesday 22nd (4pm to 6.30pm) and Wednesday 23rd (6pm to 8pm) in week 10. All parents are invited to meet with the
teachers to discuss their children's academic progress. You should have received information about the on-line booking system
you can use to make appointments. If you did not receive your child’s report and/or the on-line booking information, please
contact the school. You can also contact the front office for support with making appointments.
Australian Association of French English Bilingual Schools (AAFEBS)
This association was launched at Telopea Park School on Tuesday 8 September. Principals and other educators from around
Australia were invited to attend the launch and to share their bilingual journey. The aims of the association include support for all
bilingual French English schools in Australia, to share successes, curricula, staffing

Visiting author
This week we were privileged to host the visit of M. François Garde, a well-known French author. His book “What became of the
White Savage” has been launched in Australia in English. It was published in France last year and won the prestigious Prix
Goncourt. Our students were therefore extremely lucky to meet and listen to such an acclaimed author.
Year 9 Roundtables
Year 9 students sat on their Roundtables this week as part of their Personal Project journeys. Thank you to all panel members
including the parents who gave up time to support the students. Thank you to Megan Taylor who is our very experienced
Personal Project Coordinator. The students this year have excelled in verbalising their knowledge as they plan for, research and
execute their projects.
School Committees
Thank you to the parents who have supported the school this term by sitting on the many school committees. They include:
Curriculum; BYOD; 10-Year Master Plan; Health Promoting School; Reconciliation Action Plan; and Gifted and Talented. We
welcome any other parents who would like to join us on any of these committees in Term 4. You are always welcome.
Lastly, I will be on professional learning and long service leave for the first three weeks of Term 4. I will be travelling to Helsinki
and France for meetings before attending the IB World Conference in The Hague. I hope to bring many ideas back to the school
while confirming our status as a world school. Michele McLoughlin will be the Acting Principal during my absence and Ona
Siakinotu , Head of Science, will be the Acting Deputy Principal for Michele.
I wish you all happy and safe holidays at the end of the term. Please find the time to relax before the next busy term is upon us.

LE MOT DU PRINCIPAL
Voici déjà le dernier Telopea Topics du Term 3. Ce fut un trimestre très chargé et productif grâce à nos élèves qui ont excellé
dans de nombreux domaines. Nous avons eu la chance de pouvoir assister à quelques concerts divertissants. Toutes nos
félicitations à Susan Cribb et aux élèves qui ont participé au concert des classes de CE2 à Sixième. Quel plaisir de voir les
enfants heureux de chanter des chansons dont ils se souviendront longtemps. Un grand merci également à Rob Clements et à
son orchestre qui, une nouvelle fois, nous ont divertis avec un concert des familles de très haute qualité, une belle vitrine pour
les nombreux talents de nos élèves. Les élèves du Primaire du Wakakirri ont excellé au concours de l’ACT et ont terminé dans les
six premiers de la compétition. Bravo à ces élèves et leurs professeurs!
NAPLAN
Les résultats du NAPLAN nous sont parvenus ce trimestre, et les résultats individuels des élèves de CE2, CM2, Cinquième et
Troisième ont été envoyés par courrier. Une fois encore, les résultats généraux sont excellents et figurent parmi les meilleurs de
l’ACT. Nous sommes actuellement en train d’analyser les résultats afin de repérer les progrès des élèves et d’améliorer notre
enseignement de l’anglais et notre pédagogie à l’école.
Echange scolaire
Nous avons, ces dernières semaines, accueilli des élèves du Lycée Jules Garnier de Nouvelle Calédonie. Ils ont été hébergés dans
des familles des élèves de notre école que nous remercions chaleureusement pour leur accueil. Les élèves ont passé un excellent
séjour chez nous et nous sommes impatients de recevoir à nouveau des élèves, maintenant que nous avons établi une relation
dans la durée avec ce lycée.
Les bulletins du Secondaire ont été remis aux élèves hier, jeudi 17 septembre. S’ensuivront les réunions parents-professeurs
mardi 22 septembre (de 16h00 à 18h30) et mercredi 23 septembre (de 18h00 à 20h00). Tous les parents sont invités à
rencontrer les enseignants afin de s’entretenir des progrès scolaires de leur enfant. Vous avez normalement dû recevoir les
informations nécessaires pour le système de réservation en ligne qui vous permettra de réserver les créneaux horaires. N’hésitez
pas à contacter l’école si vous n’avez pas reçu le bulletin de votre enfant et/ou les informations pour le système de réservation
en ligne. Vous pouvez également contacter le secrétariat du Secondaire qui vous aidera pour vos réservations de créneaux
horaires.
AAFEBS – Association australienne des écoles à programme bilingue français - anglais
Le lancement de cette association a eu lieu à Telopea Park School le mardi 8 septembre. Des Principaux et autres éducateurs
d’Australie ont assisté au lancement de l’association et ont pu échanger sur leur parcours bilingue. Le but de cette association est
d’apporter un soutien à toutes les écoles bilingues franco-australiennes d’Australie, de partager les expériences de réussite, les
programmes, les formations des enseignants. La Directrice Générale de l’ETD, Madame Diane Joseph, en est la Présidente
honoraire et j’en suis la Présidente pour cette première année de fonctionnement. Nous remercions Emmanuel Texier pour sa
vision et son organisation dans la création de cette importante association. Une grande première australienne !
Visite d’un auteur français
Nous avons eu le privilège, cette semaine, de recevoir la visite de M. François Garde, auteur français de renom. Son roman

White Savage ». Son roman a été publié l’an dernier en France et a reçu le Prix Goncourt. Nos élèves ont par conséquent eu
beaucoup de chance de pouvoir rencontrer et écouter un si grand auteur.

Les tables rondes ont eu lieu cette semaine pour nos élèves d’Année 9, une étape dans le parcours de leur Projet Personnel.
Merci à tous les membres du panel, notamment les parents qui ont donné un peu de leur temps pour soutenir les élèves. Un
grand merci à Megan Taylor qui est notre très expérimentée Coordonnatrice pour les Projets Personnels. Nos élèves ont, cette
année, excellé dans la façon dont ils ont communiqué leurs connaissances alors qu’ils planifient, recherchent et mettent en
œuvre leur projet.
Commissions scolaires
Un grand merci aux parents qui ont soutenu l’école et participé aux différentes commissions ce trimestre. Citons notamment : la
Commission des programmes, la Commission BYOD, la Commission de Promotion de la Santé à l’Ecole, la Commission du Plan
d’Action de Réconciliation, la Commission Elèves Précoces. Tout parent souhaitant rejoindre une de ces commissions au prochain
trimestre est le bienvenu. Vous êtes toujours les bienvenus.
Enfin, je serai en formation professionnelle et en congé de service long au cours des trois premières semaines du Term 4. Je me
rendrai à Helsinki et en France pour un certain nombre de réunions avant d’assister à la Conférence Mondiale de l’IB à La Haye.
J’espère pouvoir rapporter de nombreuses idées nouvelles à l’école et confirmer notre statut d’école internationale. Pendant mon
absence, Michele McLoughlin fera fonction de Principal et Ona Siakimotu, Responsable du Département des Sciences, fera
fonction de Principale-adjointe auprès de Michele.
Je vous souhaite d’excellentes vacances sûres et relaxantes à la fin de ce trimestre. Prenez le temps de vous reposer avant de
commencer le prochain trimestre qui s’annonce d’ores et déjà chargé. Les cours reprendront le lundi 12 octobre.

PRIMARY NEWS
We are now at the end of Term three with three quarters of the school year already behind us! The last two weeks have again
been very busy in our Primary.
Visit by Dr Emmanuel Bernet
We are very proud to have contributed to the launch of AAFEBS (Australian Association of French English Bilingual Schools) on
Tuesday 8 September. On that occasion Dr Emmanuel Bernet delivered two conferences: first to the Principals and Directors
from Australia attending the launch of the Association, then for the whole community to enjoy.
From Wednesday 9 to Thursday 11 September, Dr Bernet stayed in our school to share his enthusiasm and his passion for
teaching with all our Primary school teachers. He is specialized in student motivation and the use of IT in a classroom context.
During his presentation, he relies on his own techniques (he is also teaching a Year 3 class at the French School of Singapore)
and on strong theoretical knowledge. Discussions were exciting with various subjects covered: how to maintain our students’
motivation? How to set up adequate and efficient workshops? How to improve the tracking of our students achievements? How
to manage a set of ipads? … We wish to thank Dr Bernet, the French School of Singapore and the Embassy of France who made
this visit possible and successful.
Visits
The launch of AAFEBS was also a good opportunity to open the doors of our Primary school to the members of the Association.
We were happy to welcome Mrs Melissa Provost-Boyle, Principal of Tingalpa State School near Brisbane, where a FrenchAustralian bilingual program opened this year in Kindergarten. A delegation from South Australia DET, lead by Mrs Maribel
Coffey, was here to study how our program works in our Primary school – as the Department of Education is planning to open a
similar program in the State. We feel honored to showcase how our unique school functions and to help our partners towards
building their own bilingual journey.
School garden
Our beautiful school garden is now fully operational. With Spring coming, students have been very busy planting. Thank you to
the team of dedicated parents who helped us with this project. We also thank the whole school community for their donations
(seeds, tools and gardening gloves). This new educational activity will undoubtedly develop rich and new learnings.
Tutoring
We are all aware that our students – your children – are not working and learning at the same pace and consequently do not
have the same needs in terms of tutoring. Some students will achieve their potential with in-class learning and homework, but
other students will need a one-on-one support. We aim to bring all support they would need, this is why our teachers provide a
differentiated teaching. We aim to adapt our teaching methods to each student’s learning profile. The end of semester goals
remain the same for all, but are reached differently depending on the student’s learning profile. Tasks can, for example, be
modified to suit the student’s needs. Students sometimes need extra support to reinforce the skills initiated in class. I have a list
of tutors who would provide this extra support to students. They are students from Narrabundah College, former students from
Telopea Park School, or French students living in Canberra. They are all able to help your children with their homework and with
the revisions of skills learnt in class. Please contact me if you are interested.
Wakakirri
Primary Wakakirri students, wonderfully directed by Cathy Marot, excelled in the ACT Grand Final on Wednesday 9 September at
Canberra Theatre. It was a real privilege to see our Primary school performing for the Grand Final. We are extremely proud of
our students and of their teachers! With the help of Susan Cribb for the music, Amy Dean and Tatiana Torres for the set, Cathy
Marot took on the challenge of creating a 7-minute choreography telling the tragic destiny of a sea turtle whose life is threatened
by plastic bags. The audience and the judges have been amazed by the performance of our 50 students, especially their onstage presence, their precision and their spontaneity. Their bilingual education did not go unnoticed either.
Professional Learning on Bilingualism
Robin Edgerton and I attended the second part of our Professional Learning on Bilingualism from 14 to 17 September. The PL,
organized for all AAFEBS schools, took place in Killarney Heights where we learnt valuable information on bilingual education. We
will bring many ideas back to the school. I personally stayed in Sydney on Friday 18 September, this time to train teachers from
Lycée Condorcet to the use of a school web radio.
Learning Journeys
Every year at this time, you are invited by your children to visit their classes. This is a moment when your children have the
opportunity to share their learnings with you and show you the different projects they have been working on since the start of
the school year. What is a digital portfolio? What do a QR code and a spelling lesson have in common? How were the First
Settlers’ houses designed in the 19th century? What is special about Zeus or Hermes? I am pretty sure you will learn about these
and much more. Come and join us on Thursday 24th September.

This year Telopea students from the Primary and Secondary school’s Lunchtime Sustainability Teams participated in the Target
Kids Teaching Kids Student Conference on Monday 7th September at the National Zoo and Aquarium. At the
conference school students from across Canberra ran 20-minute hands-on workshops and participated as active audience
members. The student-led presentations tackled the challenges facing our environment. Our Primary school’s student team ran a
workshop called “What A Waste!” which focused on the need to reduce and recycle waste. Our Primary and Secondary
Sustainability Teams are working to educate our school community about why waste is a problem and to reduce the waste our
school produces.
Our school’s Student Sustainability Groups in Primary and Secondary, meet in their separate teams once a week at lunchtime.
The students have been developing ways to educate their peers about how we can all care for our environment. Sheree Avaard
coordinates the Secondary Student Sustainability Team, with support from Noni See and Sarah Buckley coordinates the Primary
‘Eco Warriors’. All interested students are welcome to participate!
NOUVELLES DU PRIMAIRE
Le troisième trimestre touche à sa fin, marquant -déjà!- les trois quarts de cette année scolaire. Les deux dernières semaines
ont à nouveau été riches en événements à l'école primaire :
Visite du Dr Emmanuel Bernet
Nous sommes très fiers d'avoir participé au lancement de l'AAFEBS (Association Australienne des Ecoles Bilingues à Programme
Français-Anglais) le mardi 8 septembre. A cette occasion, le Dr Emmanuel Bernet a présenté deux conférences : tout d'abord au
principaux et directeurs de toute l'Australie présents pour le lancement, puis ensuite au profit de notre communauté scolaire.
Du mercredi 9 au jeudi 11 septembre, Dr Bernet est resté parmi nous pour partager son enthousiasme et sa passion du métier
d'enseignant avec l'ensemble des professeurs de l'école primaire. Spécialiste de la motivation scolaire et de l'utilisation des
nouvelles technologies à l'école, il s'est appuyé sur ses pratiques de classe (Dr Bernet est enseignant en CE2 au Lycée Français
de Singapour) et sur de solides connaissances théoriques lors de ses présentations. Les discussions ont été passionnantes et les
thèmes abordés variés : comment maintenir la motivation de nos élèves, comment mettre en place des ateliers pertinents et
efficaces, comment améliorer le suivi de nos élèves, comment gérer un parc d'iPads, ... Nous souhaitons remercier le Dr Bernet,
ainsi que le partenariat avec le Lycée Français de Singapour et l'Ambassade de France qui a permis cette visite très fructueuse.
Visites
Le lancement de l'AAFEBS a également été l'occasion d'ouvrir les portes de notre école primaire aux membres de l'association.
Nous avons ainsi eu le plaisir d'accueillir Mme Melissa Provost-Boyle, principale de Tingalpa State School près de Brisbane où une
section bilingue franco-australienne a débuté cette année en classe de Grande Section. Une délégation du département de
l'éducation d'Australie Méridionale, menée par Mme Maribel Coffey, a pu également étudier le fonctionnement de notre école
primaire -le département de l'éducation ayant comme projet d'ouvrir une école similaire dans l'état. C'est toujours un honneur
de montrer le fonctionnement de notre école unique et d'accompagner nos partenaires sur le chemin du bilinguisme.
Jardin pédagogique
Notre beau jardin pédagogique commence a prendre son rythme de croisière. L'arrivée du printemps a été synonyme de
nombreuses plantations par les élèves de l'école. Nous souhaitons remercier l'équipe dévouée de parents qui ont permis à ce
projet d'aboutir et de s'épanouir. Nous remercions également l'ensemble de la communauté pour les dons en graines, outils et
gants de jardinage. Nul doute que ce nouvel outil pédagogique permettra des apprentissages riches et renouvelés.
Soutien scolaire
Nos élèves -vos enfants- ne progressent pas tous au même rythme et n'ont pas tous les mêmes besoins en terme de soutien
scolaire. Certains s'épanouiront avec la combinaison des apprentissages délivrés en classe et des révisions données en devoirs à
la maison, alors que d'autres auront besoin d'une aide particulière pour atteindre leur plein potentiel. Nous souhaitons proposer

à chacun de nos élèves l'aide dont il peut avoir besoin, et c'est pour cela que les apprentissages en classe sont différenciés par
nos enseignants. L'objectif étant de s'adapter au profil d'apprentissage de l'élève, l'enseignant adapte ou modifie la tâche
proposée afin d'atteindre avec efficacité l'objectif fixé en début de semestre. Pour renforcer les compétences travaillées en
classe, il est parfois nécessaire de recourir à un tuteur. Je dispose d'une petite liste d'élèves de Narrabundah College, d'anciens
élèves du LFAC, et d'étudiants français résidants à Canberra susceptibles de pouvoir aider vos enfants avec leurs devoirs et la
révision des concepts étudiés en classe. Je vous invite à me contacter si vous êtes intéressés.
Wakakirri
Les élèves de la troupe de danse de l'école, brillamment menés par Cathy Marot, ont participé à la phase finale de la compétition
Wakakirri le mercredi 9 septembre au Canberra Theatre. C'était un véritable honneur de voir notre école primaire représentée à
ce stade de la compétition, et nous étions tous très fiers de nos élèves et de leurs professeurs ! Avec l'aide de Susan Cribb pour
la musique, de Amy Dean et Tatiana Torres pour les décors, Cathy Marot a relevé le défi de chorégraphier en 7 minutes le
destin tragique d'une tortue marine menacée par des sacs plastiques. Les 50 élèves de l'école impliqués dans ce projet ont ébahi
le public et les juges par leur présence sur scène, leur précision, et leur spontanéité. Le fait qu'ils soient tous bilingues n'est
également pas passé inaperçu!
Formation bilinguisme
Robin Egerton et moi même avons participé du 14 au 17 septembre au deuxième volet de la formation sur le bilinguisme. Réunis
à Killarney Heights au nord de Sydney avec les autres écoles de l'AAFEBS, nous avons pu recevoir de précieux enseignements
sur l'apprentissage dans un environnement bilingue, que nous avons pour mission de restituer à notre équipe. Pour ma part, je
suis resté à Sydney le vendredi 18 septembre, cette fois en qualité de formateur, pour former nos collègues du lycée Condorcet
à l'utilisation d'une web radio en milieu scolaire.
Learning Journeys
Comme chaque année à la fin du troisième trimestre, vos enfants vous invitent dans leur classe pour partager avec vous leurs
apprentissages et les divers projets menés depuis le début de l'année. Qu'est ce qu'un portfolio numérique? Quel est le rapport
entre un QR code et une leçon d'orthographe? Comment étaient conçues les premières maisons des colons au XIXème siècle?
Quels sont les particularités de Zeus ou Hermès? Autant de points qui seront j'en suis certain soulevés le jeudi 24 septembre lors
de cette invitation à l'école. Venez nombreux!

Booking a holiday? Flights for Telopea funds
We have an ongoing agreement with Manuka Flight Centre whereby 1% of all Telopea Park School bookings made through Manuka Fight Centre
will go back to the school. This is open to students, teachers, friends and family, so please ask to speak to Maddie (who is their French speaking
consultant) and mention the Telopea arrangement when making your booking.
Buy shoes and help raise money for Telopea
If you are buying school or sports shoes from The Athlete's Foot, a $5 donation will come back to our school! This is a major fundraiser for our
school in 2015.

How?
When purchasing, just tell the staff at Athlete's Foot that you are from our school. Then every pair of shoes you purchase will generate a
$5 donation back to the School. Plus it also contributes towards a reward voucher for your family as well.

Exposant de denrées internationales : nous sommes toujours à la recherche d’un coordinateur pour le stand des denrées internationales (riz et
curries faits et offerts par les parents). Sans réglementation d’aliments cette année, s’occuper des stands de nourriture sera plus facile! Contactez,

Les chariots de dons sont en route… pendant que vous êtes en plein ménage du printemps, nous cherchons des dons de livres de seconde
main, des vêtements pour Vintage Fashions, des plants, des concerves et des objets artisanaux pour le potager.

Raffle EXTRAORDINAIRE 2015
Raffle est de retour!
L’association du P&C du lycée Telopea vous demande votre aide pour vendre des
billets pour Raffle Extraordinaire afin de collecter des fonds pour notre formidable école. Vos enfants devraient déjà avoir reçu leur carnet de billets.
Renseignez-vous auprès du secrétariat de l’école primaire ou secondaire, si vous ne l’avez pas reçus.
Aidez-nous en vendant des billets à votre famille, vos amis et vos collègues
Les talons de billets, l’argent et les billets non vendus doivent être remis au secrétariat de l’école (école secondaire ou primaire) au plus tard
vendredi le 6 novembre. Des brochures de billets supplémentaire sont disponibles aux secrétariats de l’école primaire et secondaire.
