Industry and management experience
Jon Lereim has approx. 30 years of experience from industry and academia.
He has held management positions within Det Norske Veritas (DNV) as head of materials
technology research section and later as head of the offshore structures Department.
During the period at DNV, Jon Lereim was involved in developing the first generation of
Rules and regulations for Floating Production Units, as well as training courses held in Kobe,
Japan, Singapore, Houston, Texas, USA, Calgary, Canada and in Rio de Janeiro (for
Petrobraz), Brazil.
In 1986 he moved to Saga Petroleum taking a position as Head of Department of Structures in
Saga Petroleum. Within Saga, his career included positions as Risk manager on the Snorre
Field development Project, head of offshore structural section and structural supervisor on
Snorre TLP, Chief negotiator on behalf of GFU (The Norwegian Gas Negotiation Committee
owned by Statoil, Norsk Hydro and Saga Petroleum).
Later he was appointed to take the position as being Senior Vice President and Head of
Organization and Personnel within Saga. In that position, he was in charge of the major
reorganization project reorganizing the entire support functions of the oil company, ie
accounting, purchasing, IS/IT, personnel, logistics, properties and facilities.
The senior VP position also gave Jon Lereim corporate responsibility for planning and
implementing Total Quality Management in the entire organisation and as an integrating tool
for the corporate strategy process.
In 1997 Jon Lereim joined Aker Maritime (Aker Solutions) head quarter as senior vice
president and responsible for strategy, organization development and learning.
He was in charge of the change program for Aker Maritime Norway, the support functions
and shared services.
In addition he was in charge of the management learning program.
Within Aker Maritime he was a member of the Corporate IS/IT Strategy Board, and System
Architect for the Aker Maritime Corporate Management Model/Corporate Governance
Model.

Beside his academic duties, Professor Jon Lereim is working as a trusted advisor within
strategy and management, for industries in Norway and Scandinavia, evaluating their relative
competitive position and making programs for necessary strategic shifts.
A separate software system is developed for assessing the competitive strength of a company
or product. This model is based on M.E.Porter’s 5 Forces Industry analysis model.
Furthermore the advisory and consultancy work includes project management consultancy in
terms of
• Development and design of Project Management & Execution Models and Project
Portals for Wilhelm Wilhelmsen shipping company, on global basis
• Running WW Academy annual courses in Project Management, since year 2000 in
training on their internal project portal.
• Development and design of Project Portfolio model for W. πWilhelmsen.
• Performing independent project evaluations, risk analyses and project management
and leadership assessments.
• Chairman board of director, new Regional Hospital in Østfold, Norway.
• Head of Project Management and Project portfolio Office Danish Oil and Gas
Corporation 2004 -2005
• Board of Directors of the Oil Company Altinex until merger with Noreco (September
2007)
• Project Director for the largest highway construction project in Norway, E6 Østfold,
finished November 2008.
• Leader of the International Investigation Team for assessment of The Siri Platform
Caisson Incident on Danish sector on behalf of Danish Oil & Natural Gas Corporation
(DONG) (from 2009 and ongoing)
Academic merits
His academic merits include academic positions at universities and publications of numerous
papers in journals and at conferences. From 1986 through 1993 he held a part time
professorship at Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH) in Marine Structures, whereas his
connection with Norwegian Business School BI, is as part time professor in project
management from 1991 and onwards.
At Norwegian Business School BI, Jon Lereim has a permanent position as part time
professor in project and change management, with particular focus within the areas of risk
management, contract management and quality management in projects. He has
published more than 80 scientific based articles and reports in technology, within the area of
marine and offshore structures, as well as more than 30 papers and reports on project
leadership, project economics, strategic project portfolio management and risk management.
Jon Lereim has been offered visiting professorships at McMaster University, Hamilton,
Ontario, Canada, and at University of Bremen, Bremen in Germany.
In 1994, Jon Lereim was the chairman of the 12th World Congress in Project
Management, “Dynamic Leadership through Project Management”.
