Fluoropolymers and their applications are in permanent competition to other high performance
polymers. In order to master this challenge successfully, the existing product groups are continuously developed further and new products are enlarging the portfolio. Besides improvements
in the product property profi le, the permanent work to achieve better processability plays a major
role, especially with regard to more economic system solutions. Through newly-balanced property
profi les of fl uoropolymers in combination with new fi ller sets in compounds and new material composites, nowadays property profi les become real which have been held impossible not long ago.
These innovations have to be driven forward considering complex regulatory requirements. New
trends such as sustainability in resource utilisation as well as the re-use after reaching the end of
part life gain increasing importance. This specialised conference and its lectures are presenting
the existing as well as new fl uoropolymers in their typical applications. Thus they are opening
the insight into new applications, especially in the fi elds of regenerative energies and innovative
driving systems, in architecture, biotechnology, pharmaceutical as well as electronic and semicon
industry. Megatrends of the present, such as the paradigm shift in mobility end energy storage,
require innovative system solutions – with the use of fl uoropolymers.

Dr. Michael Schlipf studied Chemistry at the Einstein University in Ulm with special focus on Polymer
Materials and its Chemistry. From 1985 until 1993, as an R&D Manager of the Hoechst fluoropolymer
divison, he was developing new functionalised fluorocopolymers to be applied e.g. for ion-permeable membranes or high-weather resistant coatings. During the following years, he was responsible for
the market introduction of a new fluoropolymer product line and, in the function of an APD Manager,
he took care of the technical support of fluoropolymer customers. In this function he got familiar
with the special needs of, at the beginning, customers on the U.S. market, and, during the second
half of this period, in the Asian-Pacific region with special focus on Japan. To develop new applications for fluoropolymers in the markets of CPI, the semicon industry and the pharmaceutical and
biotechnological areas, was one of his responsibilities during the APD phase of his career. During this
time, the former Hostaflon/Hoechst was transformed into Dyneon/3M. In 2004 he moved into the
R&D position of ElringKlinger Kunststofftechnik GmbH, Germany. Until 2011 he was responsible for
new EKT developments of fluoropolymer applications in a very broad variety of products and
markets. The value stream began with developing new PTFE compounds and fi nally ended with
complete system solutions established in close cooperation with customers. Since 2012 he is the
CEO of his own company, the Fluorocarbon Polymer Solutions (FPS) GmbH. In close cooperation with
customers together with his team he is engaged in expanding the existing fluoropolymer product
portfolio and developing innovative system solutions based on fluoropolymers.
