Moon Harbour on its second inhouse flight. Started as
classic deep house imprint back in 2000, Moon Harbour
has released almost 30 records on vinyl plus four CDs
during the past seven years and thus succeeded in
establishing itself as a reliable address for highly
effective club records.

Luna City Express are Berlin-based DJs Phage and
Norman Webber. However, the starting point for their
cooperation lies in Italy: Playing at the same party, they
soon realized how they complemented each other
perfectly. Ever since Norman has moved to Berlin, the
have been playing together as DJ team. As Phage had
already been working on different projects in his
Audiogain studio, it didn’t take long for the Lunas to find
themselves joined in production as well. “Fresh” on
Moon Harbour was their debut and moved on to
become one of the most successful tracks on the label.
Two more EPs on Moon Harbour followed, plus “Venus”
on the anniversary compilation and a few remixes.
Phage has been working with Daniel Dreier, Pan-Pot
and Anja Schneider simultaneously, resulting in more
minimal outcomes and gaining him a lot of respect as
well. As DJ team, Luna City Express are well-known for
their eclectic fusion of house and techno sounds –
having made fans all over Europe, they were an
obvious choice for mixing the new compilation.
Bei Luna City Express handelt es sich um die beiden
Berliner DJs Phage und Norman Webber. Norman, der
ursprünglich aus Thüringen stammt, traf das erste mal
bei einer Muna Party in Italien auf Phage und die
beiden bemerkten schnell, dass sie sich musikalisch
gut ergänzten. Seit Normans Umzug nach Berlin
spielten sie regelmäßig zusammen als DJ-Team. Da
Phage in seinem Audiogain Studio schon seit längerer
Zeit über verschiedenen Projekten brütete, dauerte es
nicht lange, bis sich die beiden auch an gemeinsamen
Produktionen arbeiteten. Erstlingswerk der zwei war
„Fresh“ auf Moon Harbour, welches dann gleich zu
einem der erfolgreichsten Tracks des Labels werden
sollte. Es folgten zwei weitere EPs für Moon Harbour
sowie der Track „Venus“ auf der Jubiläumscompilation
„Five Years of Moon Harbour“ und einige Remixe.
Phage arbeitet nebenher mit Daniel Dreier, Pan-Pot
und Anja Schneider an minimaleren Projekten und
konnte auch hier in letzter Zeit viel Respekt
einheimsen. Als DJ Team wissen Luna City Express
durch ihren vielseitigen Sound zwischen klassischem
House und technoideren Kängen zu überzeugen. Was
nicht zuletzt an ihren Bookings in ganz Deutschland
und Europa zu erkennen ist. Somit war es klar, dass die
neue Moon Harbour Labelcompilation von Luna City
Express gemixt wird.

Techno.de (12-2006): Was bedeutet euer Künstlername "Luna City Express"?
LCE: Die Bedeutung schwirrt in unseren Köpfen eigentlich als Comic herum. Wir sehen da einen Nachtexpress
voller tanzender Freaks. Wir starten die Kiste und nehmen die Meute mit auf die Reise - das Ziel ist Luna City! Der
Weg dahin, eine Reise durch die House Musik >>> bunt& quer!
Techno.de: Ihr legt zusammen auf. Kommt man sich da nicht auch mal in die Quere?
LCE: Nö eigentlich nicht. Wie spielen seit knapp 7 Jahren zusammen Ping-Pong und verstehen uns fast blind.
Techno.de: Spielt ihr lieber in Clubs oder auf größeren Veranstaltungen?
LCE: Tendenziell lieber in kleinen Clubs, aber auch größere Veranstaltungen haben ihren Reiz.
Techno.de: Ihr ward zur Loveparade auf einer der Stages. Wie hat's euch gefallen?
LCE: Es war eigentlich ein ganz lustiger Frühschoppen. Wir haben viele Freunde und Bekannte getroffen und im
Underground Bereich gute Musik gehört…
Techno.de: Wöchentlich seid ihr mindestens einmal im Club. Könnt ihr davon leben? Wenn nicht, womit verdient
ihr noch euren Lebensunterhalt?
LCE: An sich können wir gut davon leben, sitzen aber unter der Woche nicht faul herum und geben unser Geld
aus. Ich (Norman) arbeite nebenbei noch als Erzieher und Marco als Produzent.
Techno.de: Das Label auf dem ihr veröffentlicht, heißt Moon Harbour. Warum gerade Moon Harbour?
LCE: Matthias Tanzmann verhalf mir (Phage) 2002 zu einem Signing bei Martin Landsky´s Intim Recordings.
Seitdem stehe ich mit ihm in Kontakt und versorge ihn mit neuem Material. Lustiger Weise ist dann unser Express
2005 im Mondhafen gelandet.
Techno.de: Woran arbeitet ihr zur Zeit?
LCE: Aktuell haben wir einen Track für die neue Moon Harbour Compilation produziert und parallel dazu die
Inhouse Flights Vol. II gemixt. Weiterhin arbeiten wir gerade an ein paar Remixen fürs Ausland und natürlich auch
an neuen eigenen Tracks.
Techno.de: Wie hat sich Eure Tätigkeit als Deejay in den letzten Jahren verändert?
LCE: Wir sind mehr unterwegs als früher, national wie international, und haben uns dadurch natürlich in jeglicher
Hinsicht weiterentwickelt. Seit einem Jahr werden wir exklusiv über Moon Harbour verbucht.
Techno.de: Welche Tracks würdet ihr gern einmal remixen?
LCE: Puh schwere Frage. Wir könnten da jetzt eine Mega Liste erstellen, aber das würde am Ende ausarten…
Unser Favorit ist ganz klar der Song von der Bugs Bunny Show.
Techno.de: Was würdet ihr musikalisch als auch deejay-technisch einmal ausprobieren?
LCE: Mit Bugs Bunny und Duffy Duck ´ne Party auf dem Mond schmeißen und sie zum DJ-Battle herausfordern.

Where does the name ‘Luna City Espress’ come from? How did you decide to do it?
LCE: The meaning whirrs in our heads around as a comic strip. We see there a night express full of dancing freaks.
We start the vehicle and take the mob along onto the trip - Luna City is the destination! The way there – a journey
through the house music, coloured & transverse!
You are related to the music industry more than 10 years now… How were the beginnings with no Internet
or mobile phones?
LCE: Certainly everything is nowadays in the world of internet and mobile phones easier and faster to attain. In the
past for example, some things needed more time to get organized and it was not so easy to find some special
records. In the time without that technical progress we were somehow freer. Especially in our minds!
Do you think House music is about to disappear as some people said it would happen?
LCE: No, not really! House Music is the middle of all styles. We believe firmly that House Music will have his
renaissance. And rightly so!
Part of the crew of Luna City (Marco Resmann) is envolved with some other projects such as Pan-Pot &
Daniel Dreier and now starts his own label… Where do you get the time? Where do you get the ideas and
inpiration to produce three different styles? Do you live in the studio or is it part of your own house?
Marco: I don´t like to use this word – but currently the music is my job. I seperated my home from my studio. But
generally I use to - kind of - live in the studio, I spend a lot of time there and I’m the whole day busy with music. I´m
addicted to it and I´m a workaholic parallel to that. This couple gives me my ideas and inspirations.
In the other hand we find Norman Webber, we only know about you involved in LCE... Are you sharing any
other project?
Norman: Currently i don´t share any other projects. I work on a few own productions…
Tell us about your new label Upon You Records…
Marco: I started the label this year together with Marcus Meinhardt and Hawks Grunert. Upon You Records is our
own platform and we´ll mainly release our own music. Upon You Records is distributed by Word and Sound.

Marco: …too many to mention them here!
Any other projects you are involved now?
Marco: No, but in the future I´ll work more on my own project.
In just a few days a cdmix named “In house vol.2” will be released. What can we find in this set?
LCE: A special short moon harbour intro made by us, 8 tracks which were produced especially for this compilation
and 6 tracks from the last moon harbour catalogue numbers.
You were in Valencia just a few weeks ago. It was your second or third time here and you played live at Le
Club... What do you remember of the city and the crowd?
LCE: Valencia is a fantastic city with an amazing old town. The people who are invited us are very sincere and
awesome hosts! A big respect to them and also to the crowd who supported us! Love & Peace…
Your live set is more a hardware set rather than a software set… Why?
LCE: Oh in fact that´s not really correct – if we’re playing live I work only with my midi controller and ableton live
and norman plays simultaneously special loop records and works with a little loop sampler. But the main live act is
based on a software set.
What elements must a live act (like yours) have to be more attractive than a Dj set?
LCE: We don´t want to compare a dj set with a live set. Both are very individual. A live set stands mainly for the
own creative output and a dj set represents the ideas of other producers.

Bis vor gaaanz kurzem, bis vorvorgestern sozusagen, hätte ich es nie für möglich gehalten, von der um sich
greifenden House-Renaissance angesteckt zu werden, aber wenn mir dann solch gute Musik wie diese hier
unterbreitet wird, dann häng’ ich mein Fähnlein gerne in den Wind. OK, es müssen für mich keine Endlos-VocalWiederholungen sein wie in „Kick Your Ass“ von Luna City Express, aber Schwamm drüber, der Track ist eh schon
eine Art Klassiker. Und genanntes Projekt von Norman Weber und Hansdampf-an-allen-Reglern Marco Resmann
(u.a auch bei Pan-Pot und Phage & Daniel Dreier involviert) hat hier ganz hervorrangend die Track-Auswahl und
den Mix besorgt, da gibt’s nix zu kritteln. Moon Harbour können sich im x-ten Frühling von House eh gelassen
zurück lehnen, die Leipziger haben ihre Linie nie verlassen und stehen seit Jahren für höchste Qualität und
Originalität im vermeintlich eng abgesteckten House-Kontext. Acht der Tracks auf der Mix-CD sind übrigens neu
und erscheinen parallel auf Vinyl, u.a. von Daniel Stefanik, Leif, Marlow und natürlich von Matthias Tanzmann.

Wer die letzten und immer grandiosen Platten auf dem Label verpasst hat, kann das hier in einem sehr seltenen
Mix von Luna City Express nachholen und bekommt durch die vielen exklusiven Tracks auch noch einen feinen
Ausblick auf die Bandbreite der Produktionen, die da von u.a. Stefanik, Tanzmann, Luna City Express, Marlow
,aber auch neuen Gesichtern wie Leif, Dan Drastik oder Michal Ho, auf ihn warten. Definitiv eine Platte, die den
Status von Moon Harbour nicht nur festigt, sondern das Label wieder einmal zu einer der Hochburgen des
Dancefloors macht, die House immer noch ernst nehmen.

Moon Harbour have just released their in-house compilation, er Inhouse, Volume 2 mixed and compiled by label
protégées Luna City Express and guess what…it features house. Well deep house actually. There's a fine line
currently between house and minimal and that's exactly where Tanzmann and Moon Harbour fit in. The Nip Slip EP
is a perfect example of this; deep and techy with all the bleeps of minimal but with more groove dare I say and an
unashamedly house vibe which would go down equally well in Fabric as in Pacha. It's no surprise then that the
track is receiving great feedback from both ends of the spectrum with support equally from Anja Schneider to Ben
Watt. For InHouse Volume 2 all the Moon Harbour artists have created exclusive original tracks for the CD, which
will also be released as unmixed vinyl. Besides Tanzmann and his close friend and collaborator Daniel Stefanik,
there's material from fellow Leipzig dweller Dan Drastic, and new recruit label signing Samim from Fuckpony, as
well as some recently released label gems from Marlow and the aforementioned Luna City Express. By and large
though this is a forward facing production, Tanzmann has picked up Swiss Michal Ho who previously released on
Tuning Spork, as well as Leif & Tom Ellis who have contributed to 2 of the numbers, and this CD serves more as a
projection of things to come than a reflection of things past. Deep house is twisted with a minimal edge on tracks
like 'Kutaisi' and 'Break Free', whilst Tanzmann and Stefanik's own 'Jacuzzi' sounds more like a Chicago hibred
than anything else around currently. Sweet and smooth, if this is the sound of the future it's pretty good.
