After last yearʼs successful premiere of abc – art berlin contemporary, the 2009 edition of the
exhibition will take place from September 23 – 27 with a new concept in a renowned location. This
yearʼs abc becomes “def – drafts establishing future” and will be presented at the Akademie der
Künste (Academy of the Arts), Hanseatenweg in Berlin. Around 65 international artists will present
their visions for art projects in public space on the former site of the 1957 IBA – Internationale
Bauausstellung (International Exhibition of Building). These works are to feature concepts for utopian
or viable projects to be realized in Berlin or elsewhere. Egon Eiermannʼs legendary 1953 tabletop
support measuring 1m x 2m will provide the platform and the scale for artistic contributions.
This fall the initiators of abc together with art forum berlin and Freunde der Nationalgalerie seek to
present an exceptional program of contemporary art for the berlin audience and international visitors.
The exhibition opens on Tuesday, July 22, 2009 at 7 pm.

abc - art berlin contemporary is a private initiative from leading Berlin galleries that created Gallery
Weekend already five years ago. Gallery Weekend, which takes place on the first weekend of May
with around 40 Berlin galleries, has now developed to an established international event in the art
world.
