ACAM: Academy of creativity
and multimedia at Thornlea
Secondary School
The
Academy
of
Creativity
and
Multimediais
an innovative
specialized
program unique to YRDSB and is currently
only offered here at Thornlea. This program
begins in grade 9 and ends in grade 12 with
an ACAM certificate in Advanced Technology
and Multimedia Arts. All three enrichment
programs begin in grade nine at Thornlea.
ACAM, French Immersion, and Pre-AP may be
taken in the same school year. While many of
our students plan a career in the Arts,
Technology and Media sectors, there are
many reasons why ACAM is a great choice for
every student wishing to gain an edge in
virtually any future career.
ACAM/ Visual Arts courses are also
offered in the FRENCH IMMERSION
program.

* An enriched program that combines Art and
Technology, gives them fundamental skills and
knowledge used in creative design and
communications, leading to many exciting
careers in the rapidly expanding sector of media
production and communications

* A program where students gain lifelong skills
of critical and creative thinking, presenting,
leadership, collaboration, design communication
and the ability to innovate in their chosen field
* TGJ1O1 (Technology) and AWS101
(Multimedia Art) are the courses which are taken
together as a two elective “package” for this
terrific program. Please note that many ACAM
students are also in Thornlea’s Pre-AP program
and /or French Immersion. Students at Thornlea
can choose MORE than one
specializedprogram, subject to space and
application acceptance.

BLENDER - 3-D Animation
Grade 9 art is an introduction to all of the
possibilities of art at Thornlea. Students
experiment with pencil, pen and ink, watercolour,
print making, acrylic painting, clay sculpture and
Media Arts. Inquiries into Canadian and
international art will broaden students appreciation
as well as their critical thinking skills though the
creative process. Explorations of the elements and
principles of design will inspire creativity and
inform design decisions.
Ce cours offre une présentation des arts visuels
comme fondation pour l'étude supplémentaire. Les
élèves deviendront familiarisés avec les éléments
et les principes de la conception des arts
médiatiques et de l'expression qualités de divers
matériaux en travaillant avec une gamme de
matériaux, de processus, de techniques et de
styles. Ils vont apprendre et utiliser des méthodes
d'analyse et de la critique et étudieront les
caractéristiques de l'art historique, en particulier
les périodes et une sélection de l'art canadien et de
l'art des autres cultures.

Grade 10 Visual Arts/ Les Arts Visuels/ ACAM
This course emphasizes learning through practice;
building on what students know; and introducing
them to new ideas, materials, and processes for
artistic thinking and experimentation. Students will
have the opportunity to produce work in the areas
of clay and plaster casting, print-making, charcoal
drawing, and acrylic painting. Student learning will
include the refined application of the elements and
principles of design, incorporating the creative
design processes. Students will also learn about
connections between works of art and their
historical contexts.
Ce cours met l'accent sur l'apprentissage par la
pratique, en s'appuyant sur ce que les élèves
savent et en les initiant à de nouvelles idées, les
matériaux et les processus de la pensée artistique
et l'expérimentation. Les élèves comprendront
l'application affinée des éléments et des principes
deconception, tout en intégrant les créatifs et les
processus de conception. Les élèves apprendront
également sur les liens entre lesœuvres d'art et de
leurs contextes historiques.
