1
Locate and unpack the Panasonic laptop
computer, the Hewlett-Packard printer, an MI
tester and a VI tester.
•
Locate three AC power cords for the
computer, the VI and the MI tester.
•
Locate the 3 foot USB cable for the printer.
Laptop Computer
Docking Station
Your Consult-III Cart Assembly is shipped with a
laptop computer docking station assembled to the
top of the cart. You install a Panasonic laptop
computer (included) and a Hewlett-Packard
printer (included) onto the cart. The following
steps will guide you through this assembly.

Place the 3 power cords (computer and 2 testers)
and the 3 foot USB cable (printer) into the black
plastic corrugated tubing supplied in the kit.

Fasten the corrugated tubing to the velcro strips
placed on the cart uprights between the printer and
the computer, see Figure 3.

Plug the power strip located on the back of the
computer into a 110 v. wall outlet, see Figure 2.

Open the display screen on the laptop
Install the battery into the laptop. Remove your
Panasonic laptop computer from the shipping box. Place the battery into the computer, see
Figure 4. Secure the battery door latch as illustrated.

Turn On the laptop. Slide the power switch and
hold it for approximately one (1) second, then
release the switch.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT hold the power switch On
for more than four (4) seconds, this forces the
power Off.

Provide power to the laptop, connect the DC power
adapter to the laptop as illustrated in Figure 5.

Plug the power adapter into one of the power cords
placed in the corrugated tubing, see Figure 3 on
page 1. The laptop battery will begin charging
immediately. Let the battery charge for
approximately 5 minutes before turning On the
computer for the next step.

When the laptop is started for the first time you will
see an on-screen Setup Wizard that installs the
operating system. You will be required to enter
commands into the laptop through the laptop
Touch Pad,
NOTE: if you are not familiar with using a touch pad,
refer to Touch Pad Operation on page 10.

Figure 8.

options or click the CUSTOMIZE button to change
the Regional and Language Options to set up a
different language.
Touch Screen Calibration

The computer will assign a name for the laptop,
type in your own name or accept the assigned
name. Press the TAB key on the laptop to go to the
Administration password entry. Type an
Administrator Password for this computer (do not
use numbers yet). Immediately write the
Administrator Password on paper for safekeeping.
IMPORTANT: You must use the Administrator
password to change setup and functions. Be sure
to keep a copy of the password in a secure location. If the password is forgotten, Windows cannot
be operated.
Your computer is equipped with a touchscreen
function allowing you to perform the same operations as the touch pad or mouse by touching the
surface of the display with the stylus (included). It
is necessary to set your computer up to use the
touch screen.
Type your administrator password
into the window. Press the ENTER key.

The “opening screen” for your laptop computer will
appear. Click the green START button to see the
list of applications.

The operating system installation begins, it will
take about 10 minutes to install. The following
window will appear when the Operating System is
installed. Type your administrator password into
the window and press the ENTER key on your
laptop keyboard.
NOTE: The administrator password is required each
time the computer is started.

Using the laptop touch pad, place the cursor on
CONTROL PANEL, tap the keypad twice (2).

Click the Touch Screen Tab and then click the
Calibration button.
NOTE: You will need to use the Stylus supplied with
laptop to complete the calibration procedure. Locate
the stylus at the bottom of the laptop display, see
Figure 31 on page 11. Attach the Tether as shown on
Attach the Tether on page 11.

Touch the red “+” mark on the screen for about one
(1) second.

After the nine “+” marks are touched the calibration
procedure is complete, press ENTER. The Mouse
Properties screen, Figure 17, will appear again.
Using the stylus, press OK. Touch Screen
calibration is complete.

Turn Off the laptop. locate the “Installation
Instructions” in the Document Pouch, (located in
the cart drawer) for the Panasonic Laptop Docking
Station.

Follow the procedure titled “Relocating
Computer Carrying Strap” located on page 4 of
the “Installation Instructions” to relocate the
carrying strap before mounting the laptop
computer into the docking station.

Carefully follow the procedure titled “Installing
Laptop Computer into the Dock” located on page
3 of the ‘Installation Instructions” to mount your
Panasonic Laptop Computer onto the
docking station.

Plug the laptop power cord into the docking station
DC power port, see Figure 19, and into the power
strip located on the back of the cart, see Figure 20.

Locate the DVD drive and the 20.5-inch USB cable
included in the box with the DVD drive. Install the
smaller end of the USB cable into the back of the
DVD drive.

Your laptop will request installation of a driver for
the USB to Ethernet adapter located on the
docking station.

To install the driver, place the CD included with the
docking station in the DVD drive. Close the cover.
The DVD drive will start and a driver installation
wizard will appear.

Install the USB cable into a open USB port on the

requested to install the driver.

Turn On the laptop, it will recognize the DVD drive
and automatically install a driver for it.

Open the DVD to remove the shipping paper. To
open, press the silver button illuminated with the
green light on the DVD cover. Remove the piece
of shipping paper from the inside of the DVD drive.

Remove the Hewlett-Packard (H-P) printer from
the H-P shipping carton

Locate the Power Cord for the printer in the H-P
shipping carton. Plug the Power Cord into the
printer Power Receptacle and into the Power Strip
located on the back of the cart.

Perform any necessary unpacking on the inside
of the printer as described in the Hewlett-Packard
“Getting Started Guide.
Locate the USB cable for the printer, it should
installed in the corrugated tubing along with the
three power cords.

Plug the USB cable into the laptop computer USB
port, see Figure 28.

Turn On the laptop computer and the printer, the
laptop will recognize the new hardware connection
and request that drivers for the printer be installed.

Place the CD included with the H-P printer in the
DVD drive. Close the cover. The drive will start and
a driver installation wizard will appear. Follow the
installation steps to install the drivers and to install
the printer operating program.

Trouble Shooting
•
Printer does not turn on - check power cord.
•
Printer does not print - check USB cable.
•
Laptop battery does not charge - check DC plug to
docking station and power cord.
•
Laptop does not dock into the docking station Make sure the cover for the docking connection in
the bottom of the laptop is open. Refer also to the
docking and undocking procedure detailed in the
Docking Station instructions included in the Document Pouch in the drawer.
•
If you have no power to the system, check the
reset button on the power strip on the back of the
cart.
•
Refer to the laptop computer (located on the CD
titled, “CF-18 Operating Instructions”), H-P printer
manual or Docking Station manual for help solving
detailed troubleshooting issues.

Use the touch pad to move the cursor on the
display and perform computer operations.

When the touch pad becomes dirty:
•
•
Wipe to remove dirt by using a dry soft cloth such
as gauze or a soft cloth first applied with detergent
diluted with water and then thoroughly wrung.
•
Do not use benzene, thinner, or rubbing alcohol.
Doing so may adversely affect the surface,e.g.,
discoloration. In addition, do not use commerciallyavailable household cleaners and cosmetics, as
they may contain components harmful to the
surface.
•

By design the touch pad is to be used with a finger
tip only. Do not place any object on the work
surface or press down forcefully with sharppointed objects (e.g., nails) or hard objects that
can leave marks (e.g., pencils and ball point pens).
Try to avoid having any harmful substances such
as oil, come in contact with the touch pad.The
cursor may not work properly in such cases.

The tether can be attached to the bottom right or
bottom left corner of the display. It prevents the
stylus (included) from falling accidentally.

Touch Screen Operation
Your computer is equipped with a touchscreen
function allowing you to perform the same operations as the touch pad or mouse by touching the
surface of the display with the stylus (included).

When the touchscreen becomes dirty:
•
Use the stylus included with the computer. Do not
use an implement other than the stylus that comes
with the computer.
•
•
Do not place any object on the surface or press
down forcefully with sharp-pointed objects (e.g.,
nails), or hard objects that can leave marks (e.g.,
pencils and ball point pens).

Do not operate the computer when such things as
dust are on the screen. Do not allow contact with
substances that could dirty the touchscreen, such
as oil.

Clean the stylus tip and screen prior to operation.
Foreign particles can scratch the screen and
impede the operation of the stylus.

Ouvrez l’écran de l’ordinateur
Installez la batterie dans l’ordinateur. Retirez votre
ordinateur portatif Panasonic de l’emballage. Installez la batterie dans l’ordinateur, voir
Figure 4. Fermez bien le loquet du couvercle du
compartiment de la batterie, comme illustré.

Allumez l’ordinateur portatif. Glissez l’interrupteur
d’alimentation, tenez-le pendant environ (1)
seconde et relâchez.
IMPORTANT: Ne tenez PAS l’interrupteur d’alimentation dans la position On (Marche) pendant plus
de quatre (4) secondes, cela coupera l’alimentation.

Quand l’ordinateur est allumé pour la première

L’ordinateur assignera un nom à l’ordinateur
portatif. Inscrivez le nom que vous avez choisi ou
acceptez le nom assigné. Appuyez sur la touche
tabulation sur l’ordinateur pour passer à
l’inscription du mot de passe de l’administrateur.
Inscrivez le mot de passe de l'administrateur pour
cet ordinateur (n'utilisez pas encore les nombres).
Notez immédiatement le mot de passe de
l'administrateur sur papier pour sauvegarder.
Votre ordinateur comprend une fonction écran
tactile qui vous permet d'effectuer les mêmes
opérations qu'avec un pavé tactile ou une souris
en touchant la surface de l’écran avec un stylet
(inclus). Il est nécessaire de configurer votre ordinateur pour utiliser l’écran tactile.
IMPORTANT: Vous devez utiliser le mot de passe
de l’administrateur pour changer la configuration
et les fonctions. Assurez-vous de garder une
copie du mot de passe dans un lieu sûr. Si le mot
de passe est oublié, Windows ne pourra pas être
utilisé.
Inscrivez votre mot de passe de l’administrateur
dans la fenêtre. Appuyez sur la touche ENTER
(entrée)

L’installation du système d’exploitation débute,
elle durera environ 10 minutes. La fenêtre
suivante sera affichée une fois l'installation du
système d'exploitation terminée. Inscrivez votre
mot de passe de l’administrateur sur l’écran et

de votre ordinateur.

Allumez l’ordinateur. Il reconnaîtra le lecteur DVD
et installera automatiquement un pilote pour lui.

Ouvrez le DVD pour enlever le papier d’expédition.
Pour ouvrir, appuyez sur le bouton argenté
illuminé par une lumière verte sur le couvercle du
DVD. Enlevez le morceau du papier d’emballage
de l’intérieur du lecteur DVD.

Effectuez tout le déballage nécessaire à l’intérieur
de l’imprimante tel que décrit dans le « Guide de
démarrage » de H-P.

Trouvez le câble USB de l’imprimante. Il devrait se
trouver dans le tuyau cannelé à côté de trois
cordons d’alimentation.

Branchez le câble USB dans le port USB de
l’ordinateur portatif, voir Figure 28.

Dépannage de Consult-III de Nissan

•
L’imprimante ne s’allume pas – vérifiez le cordon
d’alimentation électrique.
•
L’imprimante n’imprime pas – vérifiez le câble
USB.
•
La batterie de l’ordinateur ne se charge pas – vérifiez le connecteur CC à la station d’accueil et le
cordon d’alimentation.
•
L'ordinateur ne s’ajuste pas à la station d’accueil –
Assurez-vous que le couvercle de la connexion à
la station d’accueil au-dessous de l'ordinateur est
ouvert. Reportez-vous aussi aux procédures de
connexion et de la déconnexion de la station
d’accueil décrites dans les instructions relatives à
la station d’accueil incluses dans la Poche à documents dans le tiroir.
•
Si le système n’est pas sous tension, vérifiez le
bouton reset sur la bande d’alimentation en arrière
du chariot.
•
Reportez-vous à l’ordinateur portatif (CD intitulé «
Instructions d’utilisation de CF-18 »), au manuel
d’utilisation de l’imprimante H-P et au manuel de la
station d’accueil pour résoudre des problèmes
plus détaillés.

Trouvez le cordon d’alimentation de l’imprimante
dans la boîte d’emballage H-P. Branchez le
cordon d’alimentation dans la prise d’alimentation
de l’imprimante et dans la bande d’alimentation
située en arrière du chariot.

Allumez l’ordinateur portatif et l’imprimante.
L’ordinateur trouvera le nouvel équipement et
demandera que le pilote de l’imprimante soit
installé.

Placez le CD inclus avec l’imprimante H-P dans le
lecteur DVD. Fermez le couvercle. Le lecteur
démarrera la lecture et l’assistant d’installation du
pilote apparaîtra. Suivez les instructions
d’installation pour installer les pilotes et pour
installer le logiciel d'utilisation de l'imprimante.

Le pavé tactile est conçu pour être utilisé avec le
bout du doigt seulement. Ne placez aucun objet
sur la surface de travail et n’appuyez pas avec
force en utilisant des objets pointus (ex. les clous)
ou des objets durs qui peuvent laisser des
marques (ex. des crayons et des stylos à bile).
Asseyez d'éviter que les substances nocives,
telles que l’huile, entrent en contact avec le pavé
tactile. Le curseur pourrait ne pas fonctionner
correctement dans de tels cas.
Quand le pavé tactile devient sale:
•
Essuyez-le pour enlever la saleté avec un chiffon
doux et sec tel que la gaze ou avec un chiffon doux
aspergé avec du détergent dilué avec de l'eau et
bien essoré.
Attachement du câble

N’utilisez pas de benzène, de diluant ou d’alcool à
friction. Cela pourrait nuire à la surface, ex. provoquer la décoloration. En plus, n’utilisez pas des de
détergents ménagers et des cosmétiques de
commerce, puisqu’ils peuvent contenir des
composants nocifs pour la surface. .
Attachement du câble
Le câble d’attache peut être attaché au coin
inférieur droit ou gauche de l’affichage. Il prévient
le stylet (inclus) de tomber par accident.

Utilisation de l’écran tactile
Votre ordinateur comprend une fonction écran
tactile qui vous permet d'effectuer les mêmes
opérations qu'avec un pavé tactile ou une souris
en touchant la surface de l’écran avec un stylet
(inclus).

Deux tapotements rapides
Touchez et tenez l’objet (ex. un fichier
ou une icône), déplacez le stylet sur la
surface (en glissant l 'objet vers l'endroit
voulu) et relâchez le stylet.
Pour cliquer à droite
1. Sélectionnez L à la barre des tâches. L change à R.
2. Sélectionner l’objet sur lequel vous voulez cliquer à droite. R change
à L. Si vous changez l’icône à R par accident, sélectionnez R pour
revenir à L.
Écran tactile
Quand l’écran tactile devient sale:

Utilisez le stylet inclus avec l’ordinateur. N’utilisez
pas d’objet autre que le stylet joint à l’ordinateur.

Ne placez aucun objet sur la surface et n’appuyez
pas avec force en utilisant des objets pointus (ex.
les clous) ou des objets durs qui peuvent laisser
des marques (ex. des crayons et des stylos à bile).

N’utilisez pas l’ordinateur quand il y a des
substances telles que la poussière sur l'écran. Ne
permettez pas le contact avec des substances qui
pourraient salir l’écran tactile comme l’huile.
Essuyez pour enlever la saleté en utilisant le chiffon doux et sec inclus avec l'ordinateur. N’utilisez
pas de benzène, de diluant ou d’alcool à friction.
Stylet
•
Nettoyez le bout du stylet et l’écran avant l’utilisation. Des particules étrangères peuvent rayer
l’écran et gêner le fonctionnement du stylet.
•
Utilisez le stylet seulement avec l'écran d'ordinateur. L’utilisation du stylet pour toute autre fin peut
endommager le stylet et rayer l’écran.
