Assurément l’un des tous meilleurs vibraphonistes en
Europe, Pascal Schumacher nous fait découvrir un nouvel album passionnant, de ces albums que l’on écoute
en boucle une fois lancé. A la direction d’un Quartet
déjà bien rodé depuis plusieurs années, Pascal Schumacher s’est construit un monde et un univers avec
une écriture et une esthétique révélant une émotion
constante, et si le Japon reste un modèle de contrastes
entre la tradition et le moderne, il est devenu une vraie
source d’inspiration pour Pascal Schumacher.

Most certainly one of the very best European vibraphonists, Pascal Schumacher introduces us to a fascinating
new album, one of those that we listen to over and over
again once started. At the head of a well-oiled Quartet
for several years now, he has built his own world and
universe with a writing and an attractiveness that reveal a constant emotion, and although Japan remains
a model of contrasts between tradition and modern
style, it has become a source of inspiration for him.

Voilà plusieurs années que je suis en contact et que je travaillais
occasionnellement avec Jean Michel Leygonie et observais attentivement l’évolution du travail du Label LABORIE Jazz. La place
laissée à l’Artiste et à son travail de création est aujourd’hui une
chose très rare dans le secteur de l’industrie musicale et le fait de
pouvoir rejoindre une Equipe comme celle du Label est à la fois
une grande satisfaction et une belle opportunité pour le développement de mon travail à la fois en Europe mais aussi à l’international. Plusieurs idées de programme sont engagées avec le label
mais la première production va être de poursuivre le travail du
Quartet, formation rodée, dans laquelle chaque acteur a trouvé
une place essentielle.

« Left Tokyo Right » est le titre de mon nouvel album
solo. “Right“ est le quartier Asakusa de Tokyo, celui
des temples, des femmes en kimono, des joueurs de
taiko, le “vieux“ Japon traditionnel. “Left“, ce sont
les quartiers Akihabara et Shibuya de Tokyo, ceux
des néons, du J-pop, le “nouveau“ Japon super-moderne et tape-à-l’œil. J’aime ces deux facettes culturelles fortes. Je crois que la société japonaise est en
même temps plus moderne et plus traditionnelle que
la société européenne. Tout cela m’impressionne
beaucoup, et je me sens très attiré par cet énorme
contraste. »

« Left Tokyo Right » is the name of my new solo album.
“Right” is the Asakusa district of Tokyo, the temples,
women in kimonos, taiko drummers, the traditional
“old” Japan. “Left”’ are the Akihabara and Shibuya
districts of Tokyo, neon lights, J-pop, the super-modern, flashy, “new” Japan. I like both of these strong
cultural aspects. I believe the Japanese society is at
once both more modern and more traditional than
the European society. All of these things make strong
impressions on me, and I feel very attracted by this
huge contrast.”
