In collaboration with Université du Maine, we give international students the opportunity to learn new trades and to graduate with a Higher Education Diploma. International students (18 and over) can apply to full time courses in Piano Tuning, Guitar Making and Repair, Wind Instrument Making and Sound Engineering. They run from September to May and include technical training, professional cultural classes, work placements, career guidance and student support. 25% OF LIVE SOUND RECORDING ENGINEER CLASSES ARE TAUGHT IN ENGLISH. FRENCH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS The courses include professional jargon and specific vocabulary (music history, acoustics…) so a minimum level understanding is essential. Applicants with an A2 or B1-level of French must take presessional courses, in their own country or at Université du Maine, before beginning of term. They last between two to nine months. Applicants with a B2-level or higher are exempted. TO KEEP LEARNING We guide professionals throughout their careers by providing lifelong learning. We offers short courses tailor-made to instrument making and repair professionals, sound engineers, music teachers, music school directors and music retail employees (two to five days long). We organise short and adjustable professional trainings, on campus and abroad. LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE We are in charge of the conservation of the instrument craftsmanship industry knowledge. We keep a wide range of documents and databases accessible online. MAIN ACTIVITIES: • To develop technical tools dedicated to craftsmen. • To support innovation, Scientific Research and Development in collaboration with acoustics laboratories, and access to knowledge • To organise Instrument Craftsmanship and Science Days about materials, sustainable development, physics… • To plan short professional work placements about acoustics, innovation, new tools… • To publish a printed and online magazine, “Musique & Technique”, and scientific articles.
