SERHIY SALOV, PIANO
D’origine ukrainienne, Serhiy Salov fait ses débuts devant public à
l'âge de 11 ans avec l'Orchestre national d'Ukraine, interprétant le
Concerto en la mineur d'Edward Grieg. L'année suivante, il donne son
premier récital solo à la salle de la Philharmonie de Donetsk.
Accumulant une expérience riche et polyvalente en tant que pianiste
de récital, chambriste et concertiste, Serhiy Salov a été l’invité des
orchestres symphoniques de Montréal, Québec, Calgary, Salt Lake
City, Tokyo et Berlin, l'Orchestre National de Radio France, le Royal
Philharmonic et le City of London Sinfonia.
En plus de sa participation régulière aux festivals les plus prestigieux,
M. Salov a reçu de nombreux prix internationaux, dont trois premiers
prix (Dudley 2000, Épinal 2001, Montréal 2004), un second (Gina
Bachauer 2010) et trois troisièmes (Long-Thibaud 2001, Hamamatsu
2003 et Tromso 2009).
Son CD «Autour de Chostakovitch», enregistré chez Analekta, a été couronné Disque classique de
l'année 2007 aux Prix Opus. Son dernier CD «Printemps sacré des Slaves» (Analekta, 2010) a été
encensé par la critique, notamment en raison de sa glorieuse transcription du Sacre du printemps de
Stravinski.
Serhiy Salov was born in Donetsk, Ukraine and it's there that his vast musical training began. M. Salov
gave his first public concert at age 11, playing Grieg's A minor concerto with the Ukrainian National
Orchestra, and his first solo recital a year later at the Philharmonia Hall of Donetsk.
M. Salov has a broad and wide ranging performing experience (chamber music, piano solo or soloist
with orchestra) and has performed with major orchestras like the Montreal, Salt Lake City, Hallé, Tokyo
and Berlin Symphonies, l'Orchestre National de Radio France, the Philharmonia and Royal
Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic.
Serhiy Salov's musical parcours is replete with awards and Prizes. Apart form academic recognition
such as his Solo Recital Diploma (Premier Prix) from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, he has
garnered three international First Prizes on the piano competition circuit (Dudley 2000, Épinal 201 and
Montréal 2004), one second (Gina Bachauer 2010) and three thirds (Long-Thibaud 2001, Hamamatsu
2003 and Tromso 2009), as well as Audience Prizes in Montreal and Tromso.
Serhiy's first commercial CD, Shostakovich's circle (Analekta, 2007), showcasing the highly
sophisticated albeit rarely performed piano concertos by the master's acolytes Galynin and Ustvolskaya,
received the Prix Opus for best classical recording of the year. His most recent CD, "The Sacred Spring of
Slavs" (Analekta, 2010), was released to great public and critical acclaim, due in large part to M. Salov's
glorious transcription of Stravinsky's aforementioned masterpiece.

Né à Montréal, Alexandre Da Costa démontre très jeune un intérêt
hors du commun pour le violon et le piano. Il donne ses premiers
concerts à l’âge de neuf ans avec cette étonnante particularité
d’exceller avec autant de virtuosité et de musicalité sur ces deux
instruments.
En 2002, il remporte le Prix de la Fondation Sylva Gelber décerné par
le Conseil des Arts du Canada à un artiste canadien
exceptionnellement talentueux de moins de 30 ans. En 2010, il gagne
le prestigieux Prix Virginia-Parker du Conseil des Arts du Canada,
décerné par le gouvernement canadien au musicien s’étant le plus
distingué au Canada et à l’étranger.
Alexandre Da Costa a joué auprès d’orchestres prestigieux en Amérique du Nord, au Mexique, en
Europe, en Asie et au Royaume-Uni tels l’Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Londres, l’Orchestre
Symphonique de Montréal, de Berlin, de Hambourg, de Vienne, de Prague, de Toronto et l’Orchestre
Symphonique National de la Radio & Télévision d’Espagne.
Il a enregistré 12 CDs solos sous les étiquettes XXI-21, ATMA et Octave/Universal. En 2012, il gagne
le Prix JUNO pour « Album classique de l’année » pour son enregistrement des concertos de Michael
Daugherty avec l'Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal sous la baguette de Pedro Halffter, sous
étiquette Warner. Alexandre Da Costa joue sur un violon "Guarneri del Gesù" de 1730 et un archet
Sartory, prêtés par Canimex.
Born in Montreal, Alexandre Da Costa showed an uncommon interest for violin and piano at a very early
age. By the age of nine, he had the astonishing ability to perform his first concerts with stunning
virtuosity on both instruments.
In 2002, he won the Sylva Gelber Foundation Award from the Canada Council for the Arts given for an
exceptionally gifted Canadian Artist under 30 years old. In 2010, he received the prestigious VirginiaParker Prize from the Canada Council for the Arts, given by the Government of Canada to the Canadian
musician that has distinguished himself in Canada and abroad.
Alexandre Da Costa has given over a thousand concerts and recitals throughout North America, Mexico,
Europe, United Kingdom and Asia and played with prestigious orchestras such as the London Royal
Philharmonic Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of Montreal, Berlin, Hamburg, Vienna, Toronto, San
Antonio, Taipei and the Spain’s National TV & Radio Symphony Orchestra.
As recording artist, he has 12 CDs for the XXI-21 Records, ATMA and Octave/Universal labels. In 2012,
he won the JUNO award for “Classical Album of the Year” for his recording of the concertos by Amercian

NICOLAS GILBERT, COMPOSITEUR / COMPOSER
Nicolas Gilbert a étudié la composition et l’analyse au Conservatoire
de musique de Montréal, auprès de Michel Gonneville et de Serge
Provost, ainsi qu’à l’Université McGill, auprès de John Rea.
Son catalogue comprend une quarantaine d’œuvres de musique de
chambre, de musique vocale et de musique orchestrale qui ont été
entendues dans le cadre de séries de concerts et de festivals partout
à travers le monde.
Le Conseil québécois de la musique lui a décerné, depuis 2005,
quatre Prix Opus dont celui du Compositeur de l’Année 2007-2008.
Sa musique a par ailleurs été primée dans le cadre du Concours
International Kazimierz Serocki (Pologne, 2006), du Concours International Lepo Sumera (Estonie,
2003) et du Concours des jeunes compositeurs de la SOCAN (Canada, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009).
Depuis 2000, il a reçu de nombreuses bourses des Conseils des arts du Québec et du Canada ainsi que
du Fonds québécois de Recherche sur la Société et la Culture.
Nicolas Gilbert a été le Compositeur en résidence Fondation RBC de l’Orchestre National des Jeunes
du Canada en 2011-2012. Il a été artiste en résidence à la radio de Radio-Canada pour l’année 2006,
compositeur résident à la Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur de Montréal de 2003 à 2005 et
président de la société de concerts Codes d’accès de 2002 à 2004.
Il est également l’auteur de trois romans parus chez Leméac : Le récital (2008), Le joueur de triangle
(2009) et La fille de l’imprimeur est triste (2011).
Nicolas Gilbert studied composition and analysis at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal with
composers Michel Gonneville and Serge Provost, and at McGill University, with composer John Rea.
His catalogue comprises about 40 chamber, vocal and orchestral works that have been performed in
concert series and festivals around the world. He is recipient of numerous grants and awards
including the 2008 “Composer of the year” Opus Prize awarded by the Quebec Music Council, ten
SOCAN Awards for Young Composers, and the Third and Special Prizes in the 2006 Serocki
International Competition (Poland). He has also received the Opus Prize for Best Premiere of the year
in both 2007 and 2008. His work is regularly supported by the Canada and Quebec Arts Councils.
Nicolas Gilbert was the RBC Foundation Composer in residence with the National Youth Orchestra of
Canada in 2011-2012. He was resident composer at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur in
Montreal from 2003 to 2005 and president of the Codes d’accès Concert Society from 2002 to 2004.
He is also active as an author of fiction and has published three novels : Le recital (2008), Le joueur
de triangle (2009) and La fille de l’imprimeur est triste (2011), with Leméac Éditeur.

Nathalie Paulin compte parmi les interprètes les plus convoités en
Amérique du Nord, en Europe et en Extrême-Orient. Elle a chanté avec
des chefs renommés dont Sir Roger Norrington, Yannick Nézet-Séguin,
Leon Botstein, Andrew Parrott, David Agler, Bernard Labadie, Andrew
Litton, Pinchas Zukerman, Ryan Brown et Antoine Walker à l’opéra et
en concert.
En 2012, Nathalie Paulin s’est produite dans Lalla Roukh avec Opera
Lafayette (Washington DC et New York), dans le Requiem de Mozart
avec l’Alberta Ballet et Tafelmusik, dans le Messie de Handel avec
l’Orchestre symphonique du Colorado et dans La Vie
Parisienne d’Offenbach à l’Opéra de Québec.
Elle s’est produite à l’Opéra de Vancouver, de Cincinnati, à la Société Handel et Haydn de Boston, à
l’Atlanta Symphony, à l’Orchestre du Centre national des Arts, au Toronto Symphony et au Festival de
Lanaudière. Sa discographie comprend Clodoveo de Caldara, Re di Francia (ATMA), Oedipe à
Colonne (NAXOS) et le Requiem de Fauré avec l’Ensemble vocal Elora du Canada.
Entendue fréquemment sur les ondes de la SRC et de la CBC, elle a été lauréate du Concours de
l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal et détient une maîtrise de l’université de Montréal. Elle a
remporté le prix Dvořák et a reçu prix et mentions de la George London Foundation de New York, du
Young Mozart Singers’ Competition de Toronto et du Concours de musique du Canada.
Nathalie Paulin has established herself in North America, Europe and the Far East as an interpretive
artist of the very first rank, collaborating with renowned conductors including Sir Roger Norrington,

STÉPHANE TÉTREAULT, VIOLONCELLE / CELLO
Stéphane Tétreault, 19 ans, est le lauréat du Premier prix au
Concours de l'Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal Standard LifeOSM 2007. Il a aussi participé à de prestigieux concours tels que le
63e Concours de musique de Genève en 2008, le Concours de
violoncelle Rostropovitch en 2009 ainsi que le XIVe Concours
international Tchaïkovski en 2011.
En 2010, il a partagé la scène avec le violoniste et chef d'orchestre
Maxim Vengerov avec l’ensemble I Musici. En 2012, il a interprété le
Concerto pour violoncelle de Dvořàk avec l'Orchestre Métropolitain
avec les chefs Julian Kuerti et Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Ces concerts lui
ont valu des éloges dithyrambiques de la presse montréalaise. En
2011, Stéphane a été nommé Révélations Radio-Canada 2011-2012
en musique classique et Personnalité de la semaine par le journal La
Presse. Il fait partie du palmarès annuel des 25 artistes de l'année
2012 du quotidien La Presse. En septembre 2012, Stéphane a lancé son premier disque accompagné
de l'Orchestre symphonique de Québec et du chef Fabien Gabel, sous étiquette Analekta.
En 2013, il sera soliste invité de l'Orchestre Symphonique de Québec et de Sherbrooke. En mai 2013,
il sera l’invité du concert gala du Concours international de musique de Montréal où il jouera au côté
de Maxim Vengerov et Serhiy Salov le Triple concerto de Beethoven. Stéphane joue sur le violoncelle
Stradivarius « Countess of Stainlein, Ex-Paganini » de 1707, qui lui est généreusement prêté par
Madame Jacqueline Desmarais.
Stéphane Tétreault, 19 years old, is the First Prize winner in the Montreal Symphony Orchestra
Standard Life-OSM 2007. He was also selected to participate in the prestigious 2008 Geneva
International Cello Competition, the 2009 Rostropovich Cello Competition and the 2011 Tchaikovsky
International Competition.
In 2010, he shared the stage with the violinist and conductor Maxim Vengerov and I Musici de Montréal.
In 2012, he performed the Dvořàk's Cello Concerto with l'Orchestre Métropolitain with conductor Julian
Kuerti and recently with world renowned conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, which garnered great
critical acclaim from the Canadian press. In 2011, Stéphane was named Révélation Radio-Canada 20112012 in classical music and Personality of the week in La Presse. He was recently named amongst the
Top 25 - 2012 Artists of the Year. In September 2012, Stéphane released his first recording accompanied
by the Québec Symphony Orchestra and maestro Fabien Gabel for the Analekta label.
In 2013, he will perform as invited soloist with the Orchestre Symphonique de Québec and guest
conductor James Feddeck and the Orchestre Symphonique de Sherbrooke with Maestro Stéphane
Laforest. May 2013, he will share the stage with violinist Maxim Vengerov and pianist Serghy Salov
performing Beethoven's Triple Concerto at the Gala Concert of the Montreal International Musical

KIMY MC LAREN, SOPRANO
Diplômée du Conservatoire de Montréal depuis 2003, Kimy Mc
Laren jouit d’une carrière prometteuse allant du répertoire baroque
au contemporain. Parmi les Prix internationaux qu'elle a remportés,
on peut citer le Prix spécial du Concours Mozart à Salzbourg en 2002
et le 2e Prix du Concours Mario Lanza en 2003 en Italie.
Kimy Mc Laren mène une carrière en plein développement qui lui a
permis depuis les dernières années de monter sur les plus grandes
scènes d’Europe dont celles de l'Opéra du Rhin, de Marseille, de Toulon, de Bellas Artes de Mexico
ainsi qu’à Bordeaux, Montpellier, Avignon, Rouen, Metz, Strasbourg, Franche-Comté, Lille et Châtelet.
Parmi ses futurs engagements, signalons le Magnificat de Bach à Montréal, le rôle de Julie Jordan

Kimy McLaren graduates from the Montreal Music Conservatoire in 2003 and she now enjoy a
promising career with a repertoire going from baroque to contemporary. Among the international
prizes she won, Concours Mozart in Salzburg (2002, special prize) and the Concours Mario Lanza in
Italy (2003, second prize).
Kimy McLaren career has been growing rapidly and has enabled in recent years to perform on the
biggest stages in Europe including the Opéra de Rhin, Opéra de Marseille, Opéra de Toulon, Opera Bellas
Artes of México as well as Bordeaux, Montpellier, Avignon, Rouen, Metz, Strasbourg, Franche-Comté,
Lille and Châtelet. Among her future engagements include Bach's Magnificat in Montreal, the role of
Julie Jordan in Carousel at the Theatre du Châtelet, Cleopatra of Massenet in Marseille, The Dream of a
Summer Night in Metz.
MAUDE BRUNET, MEZZO-SOPRANO
Originaire de Montréal, la mezzo-soprano Maude Brunet se distingue
par la richesse de son timbre et sa profonde musicalité.
Au cours de la saison 2012-2013, Maude Brunet fera ses débuts au
Carnegie Hall sous la direction de Christopher Jackson avec le Studio
de Musique ancienne de Montréal. Elle chantera également les solos
du Gloria et du Magnificat de Vivaldi avec l’Ensemble Caprice
(Matthias Maute), orchestre avec lequel elle a récemment interprété
des airs de Telemann à titre de soliste invitée au Concert de Clôture
du Festival Montréal baroque en juin dernier.

tone and for her profound musicality.
Maude Brunet’s 2012-2013 season will feature her debut performance
at Carnegie Hall with the Studio de Musique Ancienne de Montréal
under the direction of Christopher Jackson. Other upcoming
engagements include solos in Vivaldi’s Gloria and Magnificat with Montreal’s Ensemble Caprice under
the baton of Matthias Maute. With Ensemble Caprice she also performed arias by Telemann at the
Finale of 2012 Montreal Baroque Festival.

JACQUES OLIVIER CHARTIER, TÉNOR / TENOR
Reconnu pour la beauté de sa voix et ses interprétations sensibles, le
ténor québécois Jacques Olivier Chartier est une étoile montante de
la scène lyrique canadienne. Depuis maintenant trois ans, il cumule
les prix en musique de chambre française dont la bourse CharlesÉmile Gadbois. Il est aussi récipiendaire du prix Raynald H. Giroux au
Concours de l’Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières (2008).
Il fait son apprentissage en musique ancienne avec Christopher
Jackson, au sein du Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal. Cette
formation lui a permis de prendre part à une série de tournées dans
l’est du pays ainsi qu’à trois enregistrements sous étiquette ATMA,
Analekta et AVIE. Aux côtés d’artistes de renom, tels Matthew White
et Suzie LeBlanc, il est régulièrement invité à chanter un peu partout
en Amérique du Nord au sein de l’ensemble Les Voix baroques.
Quebec gifted young tenor Jacques Olivier Chartier is renowned for his
musical and sensible interpretation. Since the last three years he won prizes in French chamber music
(Charles Gadbois prize) as well as the Raynald H. Giroux prize, which he won at the 2008 Trois Rivieres
Symphony Orchestra competition (Jacques Lacombe conducting).
Jacques Olivier is particularly appreciated in the Early Music circle across North America, the young
tenor studied period performance practice with Christopher Jackson and Alexander Weimann. He’s also
invited on a regular basis to perform with the ensemble Les Voix Baroques (Suzie LeBlanc and Matthew
White). Jacques Olivier records for ATMA, Analekta and AVIE Label.
ALEXANDER DOBSON, BARYTON / BARITONE
Le baryton canado-britannique Alexander Dobson a été salué par la
critique pour son grand sens musical et dramatique sur les scènes
d'opéra et de concert. Il a récemment chanté au Covent Garden à
Londres dans The Midnight Court. Il a chanté au côté de Yannick
Nézet-Séguin dans les rôles de Wozzeck et de Don Giovanni à
l’Orchestre Métropolitain. On note sa participation dans les rôles de
Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Belcore (L'elisir d'amore) et Ned Keene
(Peter Grimes) à l'Opéra de Montréal.
Alexander Dobson a fait ses études en opéra à l’Université de
Toronto et à la Faculté de musique de l’Université Western Ontario.
Il a été chanteur à l’Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal.

CHŒUR DE LAVAL, DIRECTION DANY WISEMAN
Fondé en 1968 par Germain Lefebvre, le Chœur de Laval est dirigé depuis 2011 par le chef et
organiste Dany Wiseman. Avec ses soixante-cinq choristes, le Chœur de Laval a chanté avec plusieurs
artistes renommés tels Marc Hervieux, Pascale Beaudin, Mireille Lebel, Étienne Dupuis et Natalie
Choquette.
Le Choeur de Laval a interprété des œuvres majeures telles le Requiem de Verdi, la Messe en Do
mineur de Mozart, le Stabat Mater de Dvořák, les motets d'Anton Bruckner et le Messie de Handel.
L’année 2012 a vu la réalisation d'un concert réunissant les Quatre motets pour le temps de Noël et le
Gloria de Francis Poulenc, projet cher au chef du Chœur de Laval.

Directeur artistique et chef de l’Orchestre symphonique de Laval et
de l’Orchestre symphonique de London (Canada), Alain Trudel est
aussi premier chef invité de l’Orchestre symphonique de Victoria .
Chef très en demande, Alain Trudel a dirigé au Royaume-Uni, aux
États-Unis, au Japon, à Hong Kong et en Amérique du Sud. Doté d’un
esprit collaboratif prisé par ses collègues, il a travaillé auprès de
plusieurs artistes renommés, notamment Ben Heppner, Anton
Kuerti, Measha Brueggergosman, Herbie Hancock, Alain Lefèvre et
Pinchas Zukerman
Très attentif à la nouvelle génération de musiciens et musiciennes,
Alain Trudel fut récemment nommé chef principal des concerts
familles et éducatifs à l’Orchestre du Centre National des Arts à
Ottawa. Il fut pendant huit saisons (de 2004 à 2012) chef du Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra. Il
est aussi régulièrement invité par l’Orchestre national des jeunes du Canada, dont l’enregistrement
de la Symphonie no 6 de Mahler et du Sacre du printemps de Stravinski a été mis en nomination dans
la catégorie « Album orchestral de l’année » aux Prix Juno 2010. Depuis septembre 2012, Alain
Trudel est professeur titulaire de l’orchestre et de l’opéra à l’Université Western Ontario.
Tromboniste de formation, c’est à 18 ans qu’il fait ses débuts comme soliste à l’OSM sous la direction
de Charles Dutoit. S’en est suivi un énorme succès sur les scènes du monde. Alain Trudel a reçu de
nombreuses distinctions, dont le Prix Virginia-Parker, le Grand Prix de l’Académie Charles-Cros
(France) et le Prix Heinz-Unger pour la direction d’orchestre. Le Centre de musique canadienne l’a
nommé ambassadeur pour son implication dans la promotion de la musique et des compositeurs
canadiens.
Music Director and conductor of the Orchestre Symphonique de Laval and the Orchestra London
Canada, as well as Principal Guest Conductor of the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, Alain Trudel is one of
the most sought after conductor on the Canadian Scene.
A frequent guest of the major orchestras in Canada, Trudel also appeared at the helm of orchestras in
the UK, the USA, Sweden, Russia, Japan, Hong-Kong, Kuala Lumpur and in Latin America. Highly
appreciated for his collaborative spirit, he has worked with many world-famous artists including Ben
Heppner, Anton Kuerti, Measha Brueggergosman, Herbie Hancock, Alain Lefèvre and Pinchas
Zukerman.
Recently appointed as Principal Youth and Family Conductor at the National Arts Center Orchestra in
Ottawa, Trudel has always been highly committed to the new generation of musicians. He was for eight
seasons (2004-2012) Conductor of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra, and has been regularly
invited to conduct the National Youth Orchestra of Canada since 2006. Their recording of Mahler’s 6th
Symphony and Le sacre du prinptemps was nominated as “Best Orchestral Album of the Year” at the
2010 Juno Awards. Since September 2012, he has been appointed conductor of the orchestra and Opera
at the University of Western Ontario.
First known to the public as a trombone soloist, Alain Trudel made his solo debut at the age of 18, with
Charles Dutoit with l’Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal. He has been guest soloist with leading
orchestras on five continents. Alain Trudel is the recipient of numerous Awards, among them the
Virginia Parker, the Grand Prize of the Charles Cros Academy (France), the Heinz Unger Prize for
conducting. He has also been named an Ambassador of Canadian Music by the Canadian Music Center.

ORCHESTRE SYMPHONIQUE DE LAVAL
L'Orchestre symphonique de Laval (OSL) est le plus grand organisme artistique de la région
lavalloise. Fondé en 1984, il est formé de cinquante-quatre musiciens professionnels diplômés des
conservatoires et universités du Québec. Au centre de toutes les actions de l’Orchestre se trouve le
public. Offrir et faire entendre de façon conviviale la grande musique symphonique, voilà le mandat
premier de l’Orchestre. Cette mission de proximité se reflète ainsi dans toutes les actions de l’OSL.
L’Orchestre joue principalement sur le territoire lavallois mais cherche aussi à rayonner dans les
communautés avoisinantes.
Aujourd’hui dirigé par Alain Trudel, un des chefs les plus en demande au Canada, l’Orchestre a par le
passé, bénéficié du talent et du savoir-faire de chefs chevronnés dont Jacques Lacombe (1993-1995)
et Jean-François Rivest (1995-2006).
Chaque année l’Orchestre offre de 6 à 8 concerts symphoniques à la Salle André-Mathieu et travaille
conjointement avec d’autres producteurs notamment durant la saison estivale, avec le Mondial LotoQuébec de Laval. Dans ses programmations, l’Orchestre cherche à mettre de l’avant les musiciens et
compositeurs d’ici en privilégiant la jeune génération de solistes.
Il est primordial pour l’Orchestre de démocratiser et d’initier les jeunes à la musique. Pour se faire
une foule d’activités ont été mises en place : matinées scolaires, ateliers de compositions, répétitions
dans les écoles secondaires et concerts de jeunes musiciens (Les Préludes).
Lors de la saison 2009-2010, l’Orchestre a créé une série de concerts consacrée à la musique de
Chambre. La série Les Chambristes permet à l’Orchestre d’aller à la rencontre du public en proposant
des concerts animés. Les musiciens de l’Orchestre offrent aussi des concerts dans les écoles, dans les
résidences de personnes âgées et autres lieux à Laval.
Communicateur hors pair, le chef Alain Trudel présente une petite conférence préparatoire avant
chaque concert de la saison. Avec les années, l’Orchestre est devenu un membre à part entier du
paysage lavallois, chez toutes les strates de la population. Assister à un concert de l’Orchestre
symphonique de Laval, c’est laisser entrer la musique et tout ce qu’elle a de magique, d’enlevant, de
spirituel, de dramatique, de léger, de drôle et d’humain.

Founded in 1984, the Orchestre symphonique de Laval (OSL) is the Laval region’s largest artistic
organization, with a roster of 54 professional musicians. It musicians are graduates of Quebec’s music
conservatories and universities. The general public is at the heart of each of the Orchestre symphonique
de Laval’s activities. Indeed, the orchestra’s chief mandate is to offer audiences grand symphonic music
and provide a pleasurable listening experience, and this mission of closeness with the public is reflected
in each of the OSL’s spheres of activity.
The Orchestre symphonique de Laval performs mainly on the territory spanned by Laval, though it is
also taking steps to heighten its public profile in neighbouring communities.
The Orchestre symphonique de Laval’s current artistic director, Alain Trudel, is among the most soughtafter conductors in Canada. Previously, the orchestra benefitted from the talents and know-how of such
seasoned conductors as Jacques Lacombe (1993-1995) and Jean-François Rivest (1995-2006).
Each year, the Orchestre symphonique de Laval presents six to eight symphonic concerts at the Salle
André-Mathieu, and it also works jointly with other producers, particularly during the summer season,
with the presentation of the Mondial Loto-Québec de Laval. In terms of programming, the Orchestre
symphonique de Laval tries to give prominence to Quebec- and Canadian-born musicians and
composers by placing a younger generation of soloists front and centre.
The Orchestre symphonique de Laval places a priority emphasis on making classical music accessible to
younger audiences by offering a full spectrum of activities. These include school matinees, composition
workshops, rehearsals in high schools, and concerts presented by young musicians (Les Préludes).
For its 2009-2010 season, the Orchestre symphonique de Laval has programmed a series of concerts
dedicated to chamber music. The series Les Chambristes enables the OSL to reach out to audiences by
offering concerts with commentary courtesy of the musicians themselves. The Orchestra’s musicians
also present concerts in schools, nursing homes and other Laval-area locations.
An outstanding communicator, conductor Alain Trudel hosts a small preparatory talk prior to each
concert during the season. Over the years, the Orchestre symphonique de Laval has become an integral
part of Laval’s cultural landscape by reaching out to people in every segment of the population. To
attend a concert by the Orchestre symphonique de Laval is to raise the curtain on a musical experience
