If you are talking about something that is going to happen on one specific day, you use the singular (Sunday) or an adjective like this or next. To say that you are doing something on one specific day of the week, do not use the article in front of the day of the week. J’ai un examen jeudi. (I have an exam on Thursday.) Notice in the following sentences how one(s) stands for the noun (car, boots), which you don’t repeat. In English the Do you like the red car or the blue one? I don’t like small televisions.
