As far as employment is concerned, the Rouen area is the leader in Upper Normandy in the
following tertiary activities:
• post and telecommunication 58%,
• finances 57%,
• advice and assistance 54%,
• wholesale trade 51%
• real estate activities 51%.
The reason for this is that Rouen, as a departmental and regional administrative area, brings
together a large number of services.
A weakness can be noted in the research and development sector with only 29% of regional
employment.

whatever the location (with mention of the workforce corresponding to a regional or infraregional level, if known);
•head office is situated outside the Rouen employment area: workforce takes up only those jobs
in establishments situated in the Rouen employment area.

Spread over an area of 20 hectares at the heart of the agglomeration, the MIN of Rouen, a wholesale food market and logistics
park, has established itself as a major economic centre in the
Normandy region (61companies, 800 jobs, and a turnover of
235 million Euros).
A direct outlet for local products, a clearinghouse for food products from all regions, the MIN guarantees the multiplicity of
distribution channels, required for maintaining corner shops.
MIN has undertaken an investment programme of 10 million Euros
over 5 years, with the support of local authorities and the ERDF1,
in order to adapt itself better to the requirements of consumers
in terms of price, quality, freshness and food safety.
In 2007, the MIN of Rouen opened a new horticultural area named «Floremandie» on an area
of 6,000 m² with 6 companies selling flowers, plants and accessories.
